<\/b>1. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>The splendour of the planets in \u2018Journey to the Sun\u2019<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Journey to the Sun — visits to Saturn, Jupiter and Mars in the second painting<\/p><\/div>\n Two weeks before Pluto\u2019s demotion to the status of \u2018planetoid\u2019 I completed this work \u2013 a triptych of a space journey passing all nine<\/i> planets. I was livid. Bring back Pluto!<\/p>\n The Sun is faintly seen through Saturn’s rings, is brighter between Jupiter’s rings, and appears greatly enlarged as the space traveller nears Mars.<\/p>\n 2. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>The variety of life in \u2018Creation\u2019<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Fish and Birds<\/p><\/div>\n Getting birds to fly with fish is quite a trick \u2013 attempted by a subtle interplay of form and light to create a sense of depth.<\/p>\n I am fascinated by natural forms and patterns, calling to mind order and variety in creation.<\/p>\n 3. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>Environment and change in \u2018Weather\u2019<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Storms<\/p><\/div>\n The awesome power of a hurricane is seen in the sharp swirling clouds as it heads for the southern United States.<\/p>\n Nobel laureate and environmentalist Al Gore has raised concerns that these storms might be becoming more severe.<\/p>\n <\/b>4. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>Culture and mathematics in \u2018East Meets West\u2019<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Which Way?<\/p><\/div>\n Ford Circles in Western mathematics were known in the East in Wasan or Japanese mathematics long before Mr. Ford independantly discovered them. My favourite device here is the use of gradation to soften the twilight boundary.<\/p>\n Climate change is clearly an issue in \u2018Which Way?\u2019.<\/p>\n 5. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>Looking through a window in \u2018Praise the L<\/i><\/b>ORD<\/i><\/b>\u2019<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n The Angels<\/p><\/div>\n Angels blow trumpets in this heavenly vision. Their movement is suggested by the staggered images. The circles and light beams call attention to the focus of worship beyond the left edge.<\/p>\n In this series I left the earth-bound issue of the environment behind in a glance upwards at the reason for praise.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/b>6. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>Love and protection in \u2018God Cares\u2019<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n His Arms<\/p><\/div>\n A shepherd holds a lamb in this parable of God\u2019s care for His people. In case you are wondering, the human figure is me. The shadows on the fingers proved most difficult.<\/p>\n I wanted to get beyond seeing God as a distant severe figure to seeing Him as near and caring.<\/p>\n 7. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>Another dimension in \u2018The Earth is the L<\/i><\/b>ORD<\/i><\/b>\u2019s\u2019<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n![\"Journey](\"http:\/\/cysarts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Journey-2-for-web.jpg\")
