Watermelon Stone

jewel closed

Despite the delicious name, this mineral is not edible. It has the features of watermelons if you except the seeds, sweetness and softness. It is a variety of tourmaline. Images of the actual mineral can be seen here—a page that sells jewellery.

More of my images, including the nets, can be viewed in “Galleries” → “Papercraft” → “Crystals” → “Watermelon Stone”.

Next week I hope to introduce a mineral that allegedly glows in the dark.

Enjoy!

Halite or Rock Salt

Halite View 3

Halite or rock salt is an edible mineral.

Just click on the images to get a closer look.

Halite View 2

“You are the salt of the earth,” taught the Lord Jesus, referring to salt’s preserving function.

Halite view 1

“Let your conversation be seasoned with salt,” advised the apostle Paul.

Though these two gems of wisdom have been around for two millennia, we need them just as much now as we move deeper into the third millennium.

The colours are due partly to contaminations from other minerals. Image and info can be found here.

Halite is the first of six crystals that I am adding to the site. The complete set will eventually be proudly displayed in “Galleries” → “Papercraft” → “Crystals”. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I have enjoyed making them.

Crystals, a new series

three stones for web

These are the first three of a new series called “Crystals”.

On the left is Tourmaline or Watermelon Stone. The only things missing are the seeds! For more info on just click tourmaline.

At the back on the right is Fluorite, Fluorspar or Hotaru Ishi. The last name is Japanese and suggests a luminescent quality reminiscent of lightning bugs or glow worms. More info at fluorite or hotaru ishi.

At the front on the right is Halite, more commonly known as Rock Salt. More info at halite.

In the coming weeks I hope to introduce the crystals one by one, starting with Halite next week. I hope you enjoy.

Irish Moss or Chondrus crispus

It isn’t a moss but it is Irish. That makes it one better than the Guinea pig, which is neither Guinean nor a pig.

Here is the complete weed on a sea background made of the soft wrappings used by florists to wrap bouquets.

Grace

Grace 25th

The meaning of the 25th ‘door’ is Mary and Joseph’s journey to and arrival at Bethlehem. There the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, the Saviour Jesus was born.

“From the fulness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”—John 1:16,17

Godliness

Grace 24th

At the 24th door stands a godly man full of years.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.”—1 Timothy 6:6,7

Pardon

Grace 23rd

The 23rd is not a door at all, just a blue sheet pulled back to reveal “pardon”.

“Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.”—Isaiah 55:7

知識 Knowledge

Grace days 22nd

Within the 22nd door stands an aged person, knowledge.

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.”—2 Peter 1:5-7
